Broadband Internet will be added to 70k more educational institutions

Next year, 70 thousand more educational institutions will be given broadband internet service through optical fiber cable, said the Minister of Education Dr. Deepu Moni. The Minister of Education conveyed this information by participating virtually in the two-day international conference on 'Fourth Electrical, Computer and Telecommunication Engineering (ICECTE) 2022' organized by the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Technology of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) on Friday (December 30) in the auditorium of the university. While speaking as the chief guest, she said that at least 12 crore people are under the broadband internet facility in the country. Within the next year, 1 lakh 10 thousand rural institutions will come under this facility through optical fiber cable. After the speech of  Dr.  Dipu Moni, the University Grants Commission (UGC) member Professor Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain, Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Managing Director (MD) Bikarna Kumar Ghosh expressed their views. The Vice-Chancellor (Additional Charge) of RUET spoke as the main sponsor Professor Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain.  Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam Mandal the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Technology presided over the meeting. The president of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Bangladesh Section, Professor Dr. Mohammad Moshiul Haque, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering Department of RUET Dr. Md. Shaheed-Uz-Zaman, Professor Dr. Bashir Ahmed, Head of Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam and others spoke among others. Speakers in the event said that the ICT sector will be the biggest sector of our foreign exchange earnings after 2035. This sector will also cross the garment sector. About 2 million people work in the ICT sector now. And will exceed 50 lakhs in next 3 years. Besides, by the year 2030, about one crore people will work in the ICT sector. So far, multimedia class rooms have been installed in 1 lakh 15 thousand primary schools and Sheikh Russell Digital Lab in 13 thousand educational institutions. Sheikh Russell School of Fusion is going to be set up in every Upazila. There will also be a Joy-D Center, where all the modern technologies of the fourth industrial revolution will be taught. Already 10 hi-tech parks are in progress in the country. In the next 7 years, this number will increase to about 100. An innovation hub is in progress at RUET under Hi-Tech Park initiative. The speakers also said that a great opportunity for research and development will be created through this International seminar of RUET. University students and researchers will be encouraged to do more research. Through this, the next generation should be developed with innovative research orientation. 12 crore people of our country are below twenty five years of age. We want their support. They also expressed hope that the young generation of the country will lead the world's big companies including Google, Facebook, and Microsoft in the future. About 465 researchers, teachers, engineers and technicians from different countries will participate in this two-day international conference. 69 technical papers and 6 key-note papers will be presented in the conference. Also four invited talks, one workshop will be held. The best three papers in the conference will be awarded mementos and certificates. On Saturday (December 31) evening, the conference curtain will come down at the ‘Simanto Abokash’ of Rajshahi metropolis.
